Odegaard Writing and Research Center (OWRC)'s new Multilingual Learning Communities (MLCs) still have room for students to register this term!
This FREE small-group tutoring is designed for multilingual students who are interested in critically reflecting upon and engaging their skills/resources in a collaborative, supportive environment. MLCs offer weekly, tutor-led group support for self-identified multilingual writers taking writing- and reading-intensive courses.
The deadline for students to sign up is Monday, October 14th, 2024. Sign up here or read more below. Faculty, please forward to your classes!
Multilingual Learning Communities
- Are you a graduate or undergraduate student taking a reading- or writing-intensive class?
- Do you consider yourself multilingual?
Then consider joining a Multilingual Learning Community (MLC).
Deadline: October 14th, 2024
WHAT WOULD I DO IN AN MLC?
MLCs are meant to help you support your classroom learning, develop translation strategies, combine your personal goals with your academic goals, and create a learning community. If you join an MLC, you'll be paired with 3-5 fellow students and a tutor-facilitator from the OWRC. You will work together to practice translation strategies, negotiate the expectations of writing assignments, and develop collaboration skills. Your group will meet once a week for the remainder of Fall Quarter. Weekly meetings are one hour for six weeks (October 16th-November 27, 2024).
MLCs can cover many topics, including:
- Making intentional language choices
- Participating in class discussions and everyday translation activities
- Understanding and negotiating with assignments/instructor feedback
- Locating additional support services
HOW TO JOIN AN MLC
Make sure one of the group meeting times works for you:
- Wednesdays, 12-1pm
- Thursdays, 3:30-4:30pm
Fill out the sign-up form by October 14th, 2024. Remember that MLCs are on a first come, first served basis, so sign up as soon as you can.
